Photo : How I love You (2001) - Akram Zaatari

The artist will discuss issues that marked his work over the past ten years, looking at his work as an expanding register or testimonies. He looks at desire, war, territorial conflicts and fears, becoming structural forms and working methods. Can the artist become simply a collector?

Akram Zaatari

Akram Zaatari is a video artist who lives and works in Beirut. In addition to his television and academic experiences, he is author of more than thirty videos and video installations exploring political issues such as lebanese postwar condition, particularly the mediation of political conflicts through television, the logic of religious and national resistance, the production and circulation of images in situations of territorial wars in “This Day”. His work addressed also the subject of male sexuality.

Co-founder of the Arab Image Foundation, Zaatari based his work on collecting, studying and archiving the photographic history of the Middle-East notably the work of Lebanese photographer Hashem el Madani (1928- ). His ongoing research was the basis for a series of exhibitions and publications such as "Hashem El Madani: Studio Practices" (with Lisa Lefeuvre) and "Mapping Sitting" (in collaboration with Walid Raad).
